Celia is a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified instructor and has been practicing yoga since 2001. In addition to being a yoga instructor, Celia has been a criminal defense attorney at a prominent law firm in Manhattan for 16 years, has appeared as a legal commentator on Fox News and Court TV, and has been a guest lecturer at various law schools. Over the years, as an extremely busy working mother of three children, Celia found her “need” for yoga consistently increasing. She squeezed yoga into any free time she could scrape together, often taking late evening classes in Manhattan before commuting back to her home on Long Island. She also found herself eagerly sharing the profoundly beneficial effects of yoga with anyone who would listen. Having gravitated to The Funky Om as her “home” studio because of its perfectly balanced dose of yoga for the body, mind and spirit, she knew there was no more fitting place for her to receive her teacher training than under the guidance of Milard Roper and Leslie Van Bell. Believing that the best teachers are those who never stop learning as students, Celia regularly attends classes, workshops and retreats in various styles of yoga taught by well respected teachers from around the country. Celia teaches basic and multi-level yoga and stresses to her students that yoga has nothing at all to do with whether or not you can touch your toes. She hopes that her deep love of yoga (and the harmonium!) spreads to all those who attend her classes.
Upon receiving her bachelors’ degree in fine arts, Lauren shifted her focus, while always keeping her objective in education, to immerse herself in the study of yoga. She is a graduate of the Kripalu School of Yoga, a Yoga Alliance registered 500 hour teacher and holds certificates as a Yoga Ed.™ instructor, trauma yoga instructor and personal trainer. In addition to her studio classes and programs through Good Life Yoga, Lauren is also an adjunct professor of Hatha Yoga at Molloy College and teaches art at a private elementary school in Queens. She works to teach her young students about the therapeutic nature of creating art, in conjunction with the importance of yogic mindfulness and movement, as not only a modality of personal growth, but a means to develop academic achievement and social responsibility. Lauren truly believes that yoga is an imperative and available practice for all ages, interests and body types, and she works diligently with her students to support that philosophy. She is happy and honored to be a part of the Inner Spirit community and always looks forward teaching and practicing at the Center!
